Recent literacy research has revealed that choice is the key ingredient in a successful reading program, especially for reluctant readers. I am still at my same wonderful school in my fifth year as the Gifted Resource Coordinator for K-2nd grade (fifteenth year altogether). I teach Gifted and Talented classes, Math Enrichment, and Book Clubs on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and on Monday and Friday, my classroom.

      In my classroom there are pictures of eminent persons, paintings, charts by students, maps etc. there is a low dais along one wall of the room. On the dais is a table and chair for the teacher. Behind the dais is blackboard for the teacher to write on with a chalk.   While reading the first few chapters of Go for Yours, it reminded me of one of my favorite books that I read in the late 90's, Dennis Kimbro's, "What Makes the Great Great."
